Starting in vibrant Cape Town, travel along the coast to the whale-rich shores of Hermanus, then loop back inland through the rolling vineyards of Stellenbosch. This route blends urban culture, natural wonders, and culinary delights — all within a few scenic hours of each other. Cape Town is a coastal city in South Africa, located at the southern tip of the continent. It’s the legislative capital of the country (where Parliament is), and it’s known for being incredibly diverse—culturally, geographically, and in its people.

Hermanus a little coastal town, about 1,5hrs from Cape Town, known for its whale watching (especially from June to November). The route offers beautiful views of the ocean and mountains. Just outside of Hermanus, you can visit Stony Point Nature Reserve to see a large colony of African penguins. Hermanus is also known for whale watching (especially from June to November), beautiful beaches, and stunning coastal views. You can also take a walk along the scenic cliff path or enjoy the local seafood.

Stellenbosch famous for its wine estates, charming town centre, and Cape Dutch architecture. You can tour local vineyards, visit museums, and enjoy fine dining. Stellenbosch is a great place for outdoor activities, like biking or walking in the scenic Jonkershoek Nature Reserve.

This route is a scenic and culturally rich journey through South Africa’s northeast and into Eswatini, wrapping up on the warm Indian Ocean coast. It combines city life, safari adventures, mountain scenery, cultural encounters, and beach escapes all in one unforgettable trip.

Arrival will be in Johannesburg. Known locally as “Jozi”, “Joburg”, or “eGoli” (City of Gold), Johannesburg is South Africa’s largest city and the economic heart of the country. It’s vibrant, fast-paced, full of contrasts, and rich with history—especially connected to South Africa’s struggle for freedom and the rise of democracy.

Hazyview is a lush, subtropical town located in Mpumalanga province, just a stone’s throw from Kruger National Park. Known for its banana plantations, adventure activities, and access to incredible wildlife and natural beauty, it’s a popular base for travellers exploring Kruger and the famous Panorama Route.

Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland, is a small, landlocked kingdom bordered by South Africa and Mozambique. Despite its size, it’s packed with breathtaking mountains, rolling savannahs, wildlife parks, and deep-rooted cultural traditions. It’s one of the few absolute monarchies left in the world and offers a truly authentic African experience.

Hluhluwe (pronounced “Shloo-shloo-wee”) is a small town in KwaZulu-Natal and is best known for its proximity to Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park, one of Africa’s oldest and most celebrated game reserves. It’s a hotspot for safari adventures, Zulu culture, and lush, rolling landscapes. Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park – South Africa’s oldest proclaimed game reserve, established in 1895, and a conservation success story—especially for white rhino populations.

St Lucia, located on the northeast coast of KwaZulu-Natal, St Lucia is a gateway to the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most biodiverse places in all of Africa. It’s where hippos roam the streets, crocodiles lurk in the estuary, and unspoiled beaches stretch for kilometers.

This route takes you from the bustling city of Johannesburg through the rugged beauty of the Drakensberg Mountains, with a scenic stop in Himeville, before arriving at the warm beaches of Durban.

It’s a diverse road trip that blends South Africa’s natural wonders, cultural depth, and laid-back coastal living. The Drakensberg (meaning “Dragon Mountains” in Afrikaans) is the highest mountain range in Southern Africa, stretching across KwaZulu-Natal, Lesotho, and parts of the Eastern Cape and Free State province.

The Drakensberg Mountains (uKhahlamba in Zulu, meaning Barrier of Spears) stretch across KwaZulu-Natal and parts of the Free State, Lesotho, and Eastern Cape. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to some of the most jaw-dropping landscapes in Africa. After spending a few days in the Drakensberg, you will travel south to Himeville in the Southern Drakensberg.

Himeville is one of the hidden gems of the Southern Drakensberg – super peaceful, laid- back, and surrounded by raw natural beauty. Heading there, you’re in for a proper mountain escape. Embarking on a Sani Pass tour is a must-do when visiting the Southern Drakensberg. And conclude the day with a stop at the highest pub in Africa.

Durban is a vibrant coastal city in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, offering a rich blend of cultural experiences, natural beauty, and modern attractions. Spend 2 nights in Umhlanga before heading back to either Johannesburg, Cape Town or Port Elizabeth. For your journey to continue or flying back home.
